Memorial for
Dorothy Shisler
This
is the way it really happened, for we are the only ones who know
the true story. Adam was not the first man: he was the first Poet, and
Eve was his beloved.
Now the great Mother-Goddess
appeared, as She frequently has, in the guise of a spotted snake, and
She came to her sister and daughter, to Eve. The Mother is generous and
full of love for Her children, so on that day She offered Eve a gift
for her lover. The gift was the beautiful apple of Poetic
Immortality.
Eve took the
apple for Adam, and he accepted it, both knowing that acceptance
entailed going out from Paradise into Life, for truly the Poet must
write about the experience of Living. Eve of course went with her
lover, for how could he live without love?
Thus the pair
set out, with The Mother's blessing, and from their human experience
the Poet created immortal poetry. The Mother has always been proud of
her favorite son, and he in his turn has always venerated Her. And that
is why the Poet's book is always dedicated to The Mother, and that is
why his hymns always invoke Her. Thus when a great Poet's hymn evokes
the Goddess, you feel even to this day the tingling recognition
of Her immortal presence.
